Why study Social Work?
In a complex society such as ours, that is still struggling to shape its identity and unity, the Social Worker has a vital function in assisting individuals struggling with various difficulties, and in caring for populations who have difficulties integrating into society.  

There is a dire need in the market for social workers, specifically in institutions and organizations in the welfare, health and education sectors. There is also great demand for human resources, managers and welfare executives in the private and public sectors.

The Louis and Gabi Weisfeld School of Social Work was founded at Bar-Ilan University in 1966, and offers study programs that incorporate universal and Jewish morals and values with advanced methods and innovative research technologies. By using all methods of professional intervention, the School trains its students to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, neighborhoods and communities. 

The School of Social Work at Bar-Ilan University offers B.A., M.A. complementary program for holders of degrees in other disciplines, M.A. and Ph.D. study tracks, as well as Diploma studies in advanced methods of practice intervention. The School's graduates qualify for recognition as professional social workers and proceed to assume prominent positions in the job market as executives and managers in welfare organizations, government institutions, third sector organizations, and in academia.

Throughout the entire course of studies, field work is incorporated into the theoretical studies at the School, under the close supervision of our senior faculty members. Field work is done in a variety of areas, such as welfare, health, mental health, addiction, rehabilitation, children and youth, and others. The Methods courses in Social Work Studies at the School take place in small study groups, assuring highly efficient and productive work. Students are involved in major community projects and implement the theoretical knowledge acquired as early as the first year of studying.

During their studies for a B.A. in Social Work, students develop their professional identity and acquire research methods and practical tools, preparing them to work with different populations and to cater for those in need of social support. Unlike many other fields, students of the Social Work B.A. Program qualify for recognition as professional Social Workers and may launch their career in Social Work immediately upon graduation.

Because of our superior Continuing Education Program
The Continuing Education Unit at the Bar-Ilan School of Social Work successfully integrates academic studies with professional practices, and its faculty members are leading experts in their respective fields. The objective of the Continuing Education Unit is to offer an education combined with professional and personal growth through the acquisition of relevant theoretical and applicable knowledge. 

Studies at the Continuing Education Unit are targeted for Social Workers. A large part of the courses can also serve graduates of psychology, psychotherapy, behavioral studies, education, medicine, nursing, or management. Most of the courses are recognized for Israeli professional development credit ("gmul hishtalmut"). The versatile study programs answer the need for professional training, specialization, and the development of new skills. In addition to our existing successful programs, the Continuing Education Unit constantly develops unique new study programs.

The Continuing Education Unit at Bar-Ilan University's School of Social Work operates clinics catering to the needs of the general public: a clinic for family and couple's therapy, a clinic for play therapy and a clinic for sexual therapy.
