Bar-Ilan University has provided polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machines, which facilitate rapid diagnosis of coronavirus, to the clinical microbiology lab at the Baruch Padeh Medical Center in Poriya. The instruments, which belong to the University's Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences, are identical to those already in use at Padeh Medical Center, one of several hospitals affiliated with Bar-Ilan's Azrieli Faculty of Medicine.  The advanced equipment will help to increase the number of coronavirus detection tests being carried out at Poriya.

"We are happy to take part in this joint effort with our partners at Padeh Medical Center to improve medical services in the Galilee region, particularly during this challenging time," said Bar-Ilan University President Prof. Arie Zaban.

Dr. Avi Peretz, Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at Padeh Medical Center and Senior Lecturer at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine of Bar-Ilan University, welcomed the initiative to provide the equipment necessary to help advance diagnosis of the virus.
