In Brussels last week the Horizon 2020 Program celebrated 20 years of scientific innovation and collaboration between the European Union and Israel.  A special conference organized by the European Commission, specifically the Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Mr. Carlos Moedas, brought together prominent Members of the European Parliament and the Mission of Israel to the EU & NATO.

Prof. Yehuda Lindell, Director of Bar-Ilan University's Research Center in Applied Cryptography and Cyber Security, and the recipient of two illustrious grants from the European Research Council, was one of the guests of honor at the event, which took place at the European Parliament Building. Prof. Lindell discussed the transformative effect European funding programs – especially the European Research Council --have had on science in Israel and in Europe. The strong collaboration between European and Israeli scientists is of great benefit to both Israel and the European community, he added. Prof. Lindell described his journey from basic scientific research to the founding of the startup company Dyadic Security, and the importance of Horizon 2020 in achieving that goal.

Prof. Lindell is a Professor in the Computer Science Department at Bar-Ilan University and Directs the BIU Research Center in Applied Cryptography and Cyber Security. He came to Bar-Ilan after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, where he was a Raviv fellow. He received his PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Prof. Lindell conducts pioneering work in cryptography, focusing on secure protocols. He works on theoretical aspects of cryptography, striving to discover what is cryptographically possible, and with practical realities, constructing efficient cryptographic schemes and protocols with rigorous proofs of security and correctness. The results of his research at Bar-Ilan are being used in the startup company Dyadic Security that he co-founded.
