    Exact Process by Which Chaotic Systems Synchronize Revealed

    For the first time researchers, led by Nir Lahav, of the Department of Physics, were able to measure the fine grain process that leads from disorder to synchrony, discovering a new kind of synchronization between chaotic systems that may lead to a better understanding of self-organization in complex systems in nature, such as the human brain. An article about the study, published in Physical Review E, appeared in Veterans Insights.

    Seven Seconds of Spiderman Viewing Yields a 20% Phobia Symptom Reduction

    Dr. Yaakov Hoffman, of Bar-Ilan University's  Interdisciplinary Department of Social Sciences, and Prof. Menachem Ben-Ezra, of Ariel University, gained widespread international media coverage for their study, which found that exposure to Spiderman and Antman movie excerpts decreases symptoms of spider and ant phobias.     French Professors Knighted

    The Jerusalem Post published an item about Prof. Silvia Adler and Prof. Gary Mole, of the Department of French Culture, who received the honor of Knights of the Order of Academic Palms from the French ambassador to Israel. The award recognizes those who have rendered eminent service to French education and have contributed actively to the prestige of French culture. It is the French Republic's highest decoration for academics.

    Bar-Ilan Researchers Discover That Intestinal Bacterial 'Sense' Pregnancy

    In their new study, published in Cell Reports, Dr. Omry Koren, of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine at Bar-Ilan University, and Prof. Yoram Louzon, of the Department of Mathematics, found that intestinal bacteria "sense" pregnancy and "understand" the need to move to the next generation in order to assist babies in breaking down the sugar in mother's milk. The study findings were published by Wissenschaft (Germany), Infostart (Hungary), Xinhua (China), Europa Press, The Jerusalem Post, Daddyhood, and numerous others.

    Xinhua (China) and Silicon Wadi published articles about a technology developed by Dr. Eran Avraham and Dr. Izaak Cohen, of Prof. Doron Aurbach's lab in the Department of Chemistry, which can produce a powerful disinfectant based on tap water.

    Bar-Ilan University, Paris Descartes University Sign Academic Cooperation Agreement

    Under the new agreement, signed in the presence of the French Ambassador to Israel by BIU President Prof. Arie Zaban and Paris Descartes President Prof. Martin Oheim, the two universities will create joint study programs that will offer French and Israeli students joint graduate degrees from Bar-Ilan and Paris Descartes. Future cooperation will also include faculty and researcher exchange programs, exchange of students, trainees and PhDs, joint research, symposia and seminars, exchange of scientific and technical teaching resources, joint supervision of PhDs, and more, reported Actualité Juive, The Jewish Press, Rakbeisrael, and others.   The agreement was initiated by Prof. Dror Fixler, Director of the Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials with Paris Descartes University leadership.
