In a study published earlier this month in the journal Nature Communications, researchers led by Prof. Lior Appelbaum, of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences and the Gonda (Goldschmied) Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, used 3D time-lapse imaging techniques in live zebrafish and were able to define sleep in a single chromosome resolution and show, for the first time, that single neurons require sleep in order to perform nuclear maintenance.  The research was published and broadcast extensively in the international media, including the Guardian (UK), Discover Magazine (USA), CBC CanadaDie Welt (Germany), Le Scienze (Italy), New Scientist (Holland), and scores more, as well as on social media.
