Biomedical Informatics (BioMedIn)

 Why study Biomedical Informatics (BioMedIn)?
The staggering expansion of information in the fields of medicine and biology, and specifically the extensive scope of information accumulated in the course of the human genome project, have challenged biological and medical researchers, and led them to develop novel computational-informatics research methods. This rapidly evolving scientific sphere creates new opportunities for changing and improving medical practices and for the management of individual data in the context of clinical treatments.

The emerging field of BioMedical Informatics focuses on the correlation of biomedical disciplines with computer sciences and mathematics. BioMedical Informatics delves into all aspects of managing, analyzing and researching information obtained from biomedical studies, aiming to translate the existing information into knowledge and comprehension on the biological-medical systems; resulting in the support of the development of innovative clinical and research approaches and the improvement of available medical treatments.

Why study Biomedical Informatics (BioMedIn) at Bar-Ilan?

Because of our exclusive program
The BioMedInProgram at Bar-Ilan is a shared initiative of the Computational Biology Study Track at the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences at Bar-Ilan University, and of the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer. The Computational Biology Study Track at Bar-Ilan University was established a decade ago as the first academic program of its field in Israel. Studies at the BioMedInProgram award the graduates with a BIU Academic Diploma.

During their studies in this unique program, physicians, researchers and scientists will acquire knowledge in all of the above-mentioned fields, with the objective of improving their clinical and computational research capabilities. This will provide them with the basis for understanding and developing innovative medical research projects.

Because of our excellent faculty and curriculum
Faculty members include prominent and internationally acclaimed scientists and researchers. They carry out advanced research projects, in collaboration with physicians from hospitals in Israel and abroad. Their research results are used for scientific as well as clinical and medical applications.

The Program comprises of a number of scientific fields, the foremost of which are BioInformatics, Biostatistics, Clinically Applicable Biomathematical Models, Systems Biology, Data Mining and Administration of Medical Information.

Because of the advancement opportunities
The BioMedIn Program is intended for physicians, and/or researchers and scientists with a PhD in Life Sciences or in other paramedical fields, who hail from hospitals and clinics in Israel; and who are interested in developing advanced and innovative research applications and wish to understand the computational methods involved in the field of BioMedical Informatics. The BioMedIn Program is recognized by the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) and awards graduates with 300 credits.

Because of the research projects
One of the Program's objectives is to motivate students to take part in research projects in the field of BioMedical Informatics. Consequently, participating physicians will be able to continue their studies towards an MSc Degree or a PhD. They will be able to do so on the condition that they achieve an average grade higher than 80, and successfully complete a personal interview. The courses offered by the Program are academically recognized and will therefore be regarded as degree courses.
