The BIU-YU Summer Science Research Internship program places select undergraduates from Yeshiva College and Stern College in one of the state-of-the-art research laboratories of Bar-Ilan's Life Science, Exact Science, or Engineering Faculties. It enables talented undergraduate science majors to take part in the research of one of Bar-Ilan's more than 180 distinguished science and engineering faculty members.
Interested students should refer to the web pages of senior faculty affiliated with the program, and identify 5 research groups with which they might be interested in working. These choices (in preferential order) should be entered into the application form. The application form also enables applicants to express an interest in different areas of research by simply entering the relevant key words. We will then do the match-making for you. Prospective applicants should understand that thoughtful choices of key words and/or specific research groups will greatly enhance the extent to which the research experience can match their skills and interests.
Students can also approach a YU faculty member and discuss the possibility of coupling a summer internship at BIU with research in a YU lab during the following academic year. The faculty contact persons at YC and SCW may be of help in identifying faculty members with common interests. Should such an understanding be reached among the student and cooperating faculty members, it should be mentioned in the brief personal statement that is a part of the on-line application for this program. Such an arrangement is not required for participation in the summer program, but it could enrich the student's overall research experience.
The program begins Monday June 23, 2014 and ends Monday Aug 11, 2014, providing participants with a 7 week research experience. All participants are expected to have arrived in Israel no later than Friday June 20 and to arrange their return flights to the US for no earlier than the evening of Aug 11. If necessary, we will assist students with housing arrangements for the weekends before and/or after the program.
The application deadline is Friday February 14, 2014. Applicants will be informed by March 28th as to whether they have been accept ed into the program and into which laboratory they have been placed.
Financial Overview: Students will provide their own transportation to/from Israel. The program will provide housing at Yeshiva University's Gruss Institute in Jerusalem. Daily transportation will be provided between Gruss and Bar-Ilan, as will breakfasts and dinners (Sundays through Thursdays).
