Prof. Dror Fixler, of the Faculty of Engineering's electro-optics study track, has received the President‘s International Fellowship Initiative Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). This prestigious honor is reserved for ten foreign researchers who have made outstanding contributions to facilitating cooperation with the CAS in science and technology. Recognized for his research in nano-photonics, Prof. Fixler was chosen for the honor alongside scientists from Canada, Denmark and Italy.
The award is accompanied by a research grant which aims to foster joint research with a Chinese scholar. For this research Prof. Fixler will partner with Prof. Zhiyong Tang, of the Chinese Nanotechnology Center. Prof. Fixler has actively promoted research collaboration with China since 2005, and is currently promoting a summer course in nano-photonics in which many Chinese students participate.
"This award is proof that my investment in China over many years is, indeed, bearing fruit," said Prof. Fixler upon learning of the honor.
Bar-Ilan University's Faculty of Engineering supports a variety of interdisciplinary research programs, many of which include collaboration with some of the world's leading research centers. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in two broad areas: Electrical engineering, which includes tracks in electro-optics, microelectronics, signal processing, communications, and bioengineering, and Computer engineering, which includes tracks in advanced logic design, VLSI design, computer architecture, computer communications, and robotics. Graduates of the Faculty successfully integrate into the highest ranks of industry and academia.
