Symposium Marks 65th Anniversary of UN Vote for Creation of the State of Israel

Prof. Gabriela Shalev, former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, will lecture this evening at Bar-University on "Israel and the UN: From Recognition to Deligitimization".
Prof. Shalev's lecture is part of a symposium on UN-Israel relations marking the 65th anniversary of the UN vote for the establishment of the Jewish state.
The symposium will also mark the publication of the book "Ralph Bunche and the Arab-Israeli Conflict 1947-1949" authored by Dr. Elad Ben-Dror, of the University's Department of Middle Eastern Studies. Bunche, a US political scientist, academic, and diplomat, received the Nobel Peace Prize for his mediation in Israel during the late 1940s. In his discussion Dr. Ben-Dror will offer "New Perspectives on the UN and the Establishment of the State of Israel".
Dr. Yoaz Hendel, former Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will speak about "Forestalling the Palestinian Struggle for UN Recognition".
The symposium, in Hebrew, will begin at 6 p.m. this evening (Wednesday, November 28, 2012) in the Feldman International Conference Center on the Bar-Ilan University campus.
